Funeral services held for longest-serving peace officer

Funeral services were held today for longtime local law enforcement officer MJ 'Popeye' Holmes.          
Family, friends and fellow law enforcement officers gathered to remember Holmes.
Holmes was the oldest and longest-serving certified peace officer in the state.
He worked for many local agencies. When he died, he was serving as the chief deputy constable for Precinct 8 in Jefferson County.
Services were held at Saint James Catholic Church in Port Arthur this morning followed by a military burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
A fellow constable remembered Holmes as someone always ready to help.
Holmes died last Thursday.
