Jefferson County district clerk dies after fight with cancer

Updated: Monday, October 14 2013, 06:24 PM CDT
Funeral arrangements have been set for a woman who dedicated her career to serving the people of Jefferson County.
Lolita Ramos died early Sunday morning after she fought cancer for about a year.
Ramos was sworn in as district clerk in January 2003.
Prior to Ramos winning district clerk, she was a county clerk and an administrator for Beaumont's municipal court.
Her best friend and chief deputy said even though Ramos isn't here, her office will run like a well-oiled machine, and that's because of Lolita's hard work and compassion.
A vigil for Ramos will be on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Broussard's on McFaddin in Beaumont.
A burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica on Jefferson Street in Beaumont.Jefferson County district clerk dies after fight with cancer
