Local employees picket shutdown, want paychecks

Updated: Monday, October 14 2013, 06:25 PM CDT
Day 14 of the government shutdown may seem miles away in Washington D.C., but federal workers say it's in our own backyard.
Today, workers with the Federal Prison System Union and the U.S. Labor Department took a stand at the Jack Brooks Federal Building to picket and get their message out.
They want Congress to know they're fed up with the shutdown and need a decision soon.
Prison workers FOX 4 spoke with say they're being asked to work but have not received their full pay.
It's the same for others in surrounding prisons including in Louisiana.
They're equating the treatment to slavery or work without pay.
Neither parties have been told when they will see a paycheck, forcing them to look for alternatives to survive.
They say it's important for people to know it's affecting neighbors in the community. Local employees picket shutdown, want paychecks
