Orange County celebrates rise in Texas adoptions

Updated: Thursday, November 14 2013, 06:13 PM CST
Last year, more children were adopted from Texas foster care than in any year before.
Today, at the Orange County Courthouse, the Department of Family and Protective Services hosted a celebration of children's adoptions into their "forever families."
November is National Adoption Awareness Month, and there are still many more children who need a safe and loving home.
The department says the biggest need is for parents willing to adopt older children, siblings and children of color.
More than 5,300 children were adopted from foster care in Texas last year.
That was a 6.5 percent increase from the previous year.
Around 4,000 children are available for adoption and not currently placed with a prospective parent.
