Beaumont teachers worried about higher insurance costs

Updated: Wednesday, July 9 2014, 11:08 PM CDT
Beaumont teachers are worried about a lot. While job cuts are the Beaumont Teachers Association's number one priority, it's concerned teachers will be paying too much for increased insurance rates.

"We didn't get a raise last year and we're not getting one this year. So we're going to be bringing home $131 less than we did last year and that has quite an economic downfall on each family," said Sebrina Dollar, vice president of the Beaumont Teachers Association.

Bridget Smith has worked in the school district for 18 years. She says that the attractive qualities of BISD are now being whittled away. "I love Beaumont ISD.I love working. I love my children. I love the people here, but to stay here... most teacher or support staff are going to lose because the benefit of working at BISD is leaving" Smith said.
