Football fans now paying for parking at BISD's Thomas Center

BEAUMONT - by Justin Hinton

Football fans heading out to the Thomas Center can expect to pay a dollar for parking.

"I don't even know why they're really making us pay to park, but I mean I guess if it's funding for schools, that's fine," said Devin Asher, visiting from Vidor.

According to the district, the dollar charge is a way to generate more revenue in the district after a $25 million deficit.

Spokesperson Nakisha Myles says the district estimates it will be able to raise about $10,000 from the dollar charge.

Most people we spoke with said they didn't mind the charge.

"Nothing wrong with it. I gave them five, because I know they need it. I used to be a teacher and coach here. It's a good thing to do. Everybody help each other. That's what we're all here for," said John Clayton former Ozen High School head coach.

"Well, I know a lot is going on with the district so it was ok. It was just a dollar," said Demetra Smith, a parent.
