Updated: Friday, August 29 2014, 02:02 AM CDT
JEFFERSON COUNTY - A batch of mosquitoes from Beaumont has tested positive for West Nile Virus but there are still no human cases of the disease reported this year in Jefferson County, according to information provided to Fox 4 News by Kevin Sexton, the Jefferson County Director of Mosquito Control.

He says the batch was collected from South 11th Street and Corley in Beaumont and sent to the Texas Department of State Health Services August 19.

The county learned of the results late Wednesday. Sexton says they began spraying the area Wednesday using trucks and a plane from Mosquito Control.

A batch of mosquitoes from Port Arthur recently tested positive for St. Louis Encephalitis.
