One dead following fatal Kountze auto accident

One person died following a major accident, involving a vehicle striking a utility pole, that occurred around 10:45 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of South Pine Street in Kountze, according to the Kountze Police Department.

After arriving at the scene officers saw a utility pole lying in the road blocking northbound traffic. They also saw utility wires down that were lying across the road and against the driver side door of a green 2012 dump truck driven by a 47-year-old Silsbee man who was able to exit the vehicle without injuries.

The vehicle involved in the accident was a maroon 1994 extended cab Chevy pick-up driven by 19-year-old Melvin Keith Redmon of Lumberton, according to the Kountze PD. He was severely injured and was transported by Acadian Ambulance to the St. Elizabeth Hospital Emergency Room in Beaumont.

The passenger in his vehicle was identified as 20-year-old Gregory Brock Collins of Lumberton who was injured and trapped inside the vehicle.

Authorities worked with KVFD and City workers and they were able to get Collins out of the vehicle where he was further assisted by EMS personnel. He was transported by Acadian Ambulance where he died at about 12:09 p.m., according to the E.R. medical staff. One dead following fatal Kountze auto accident
