Tiny Mexican village devastated and grieving after landslide leaves 68 missing

Updated: Friday, September 20 2013, 01:23 PM CDT
ACAPULCO, Mexico (AP) -- Hurricane Manuel is no more, but it's had a deadly impact along Mexico's Pacific Coast.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Manuel has degenerated into an area of low pressure after making landfall in the state of Sinaloa Thursday.

The storm delivered a couple of punches along Mexico's Pacific coast while Hurricane Ingrid struck the Gulf Coast over the weekend. In all, at least 97 deaths are tied to the storms. But that total does not include the 68 people missing in the village of La Pintada, which was devastated by a landslide Monday.

Emergency workers in the mountain village of about 800 tried to evacuate the last survivors and dug through the rubble for bodies Thursday. Several entire families were wiped out by the landslide, which plowed almost directly through the center of La Pintada.
