BISD board member concerned about proposed budget increases
A Beaumont school board member says he's worried about how much extra money the district wants to budget for legal expenses and the impact of that and other costs on the district's savings account.
During tomorrow night's board meeting, trustees are scheduled to vote on changes to the budget.
The proposed increases include $15,000 toward election costs, $1 million for maintenance, $1.3 million for transportation and $950,000 for legal costs.
The total: More than $3.2 million.
School board member Tom Neild says he believes it is "irresponsible overspending" by the district, and he says it could be dangerous.
All of this extra spending would increase this year's budget to about $168 million.
