Animal Services confiscates six snakes from Beaumont home
Animal control seized six snakes -- one weighing more than 120 pounds -- from a home on Neches Street in Beaumont.
Beaumont Animal Services said the snakes are now at the animal shelter on Pine Street.
Animal Services says they were tipped off when someone saw two snakes slithering across the road near the house.
The largest snake is a burmese python. It's about 12 feet long.
The python, along with a red tail boa and constrictor snakes, were slithering freely around house.
Animal Services also seized hundreds of dead rats and one dead rabbit plus five rats and two rabbits that were alive.
Investigators say the owners even fed the snakes rats with maggots.
There will be a hearing Wednesday morning to decide if the owners have to give up the reptiles and animals.
If the city wins, the rabbits and rats will be up for adoption, and the snakes will need to go to a zoo.
