West Brook debuts auditorium, questions about bond money continue
Students at West Brook High School are performing in a brand new auditorium today.
The West Brook Performing Arts Center is unveiled as the final project funded from a 2007 bond.
Students celebrated the ribbon cutting ceremony with singing, dancing and musical performances for parents, faculty and BISD board members.
It was a happy day for the high school, but there are still concerns and questions about how money from that $389-million bond was spent.
An August review of the school district found little transparency in tracking the money.
Now, board members are waiting for an audit of the five most expensive bond projects, including this auditorium. School board member Tom Neild said $100 million of the bond allocated for inflation is in question.
One board member did say they came in under budget by about $600,000 and that that speaks to good money management.
There are a few ends to tie up in the auditorium that should be finished in the next month.
