Meals on Wheels looks for ways to cut costs
Lower gas prices are a relief for one local organization. Meals on Wheels is happy to see those numbers dropping.
The senior meal delivery service covers 1,800 square miles. That's 1,100 deliveries a day and 12,000 to 15,000 miles a week.
Facing federal funding cuts, the organization already laid off employees. Now, it's looking for extra ways to cut costs, so saving on gas prices is a big part.
Executive director Elaine Shellenberger says every dollar counts.
Shellenberger says Meals on Wheels will be looking to the community even more for support, but stresses that despite financial strains, cutting services is not in the plan.
