Port Arthur city council to work toward fixing water system, saving money
Port Arthur residents may be happy to hear that the city council plans to create revenue without raising taxes.
The city manager says the aging water system is leaking water and bleeding money.
If the city council does not create revenue, it estimates water and sewer spending will exceed the city's anticipated revenue by $5 million next year.
Running a leak detection test is the first step in fixing the system. The council voted to set aside $500,000 for one next year.
