TEA investigators visit BISD to look into cheating claims
Investigators with the Texas Education Agency began a week-long trip to the Beaumont school district Monday. The purpose of the trip is to take a long hard look at reports of cheating on tests and other claims of wrongdoing.
Investigators began their work Monday and will continue through the end of the week.
They're following up claims made by some teachers that some in the district tolerate and even encourage cheating on tests.
The state is also looking at the special education program and other areas.
Investigators will talk with some teachers and staff members at all three high schools and other campuses.
The TEA has a number of possible actions it can take including appointing monitors to oversee the district or the most severe action, taking over BISD.
