Beaumont police call in extra help for two big events this weekend
Beaumont police are calling in for extra help this Saturday to help coordinate what they say will be the largest crowd seen in downtown Beaumont.
The Julie Rogers Gift of Life run is expected to draw more than 5,000 people, but another event is expected to begin at 11 at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
Lamar University students with the Education Initiative Association are planning an immigration reform rally.
It's part of a national movement on October 5, in which people across the nation will march in their cities.
They spent the day handing out flyers amd trying to attract young people to the march.
Organizers of the march said they're not trying to impose on any other events. They just want to get their message out.
Police say if you're planning on heading out to either event, be sure to come early and be prepared.
