BISD to discuss reducing public involvement at meetings
The Beaumont school board is having a special meeting Thursday to decide whether or not to reduce public comment time.
Under current rules, each person is permitted to speak for three and a half minutes.
The proposal would reduce that to just two and a half minutes.
It would also reduce the overall amount of time that the board hears from the public at each meeting from 45 minutes to 30 minutes.
One current board member says the public's voice shouldn't be limited.
The public can comment on the proposed rules at the meeting on Thursday. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at the BISD administration building.
