BPD Chief says community relations a priority, but some want to see more
Beaumont police chief Jimmy Singletary says there are more neighborhood associations now than ever before.
These groups act as police officers' eyes and ears.
Police also hope meeting with neighborhood associations will bring police closer to the community.
Chief Singletary says that's one of his top priorities. He spoke about community relations as the featured speaker at the Beaumont Rotary Club today.
He says his officers share his goal of having a solid relationship with the community.
Since he became chief Singletary began the cops and kids program to show kids police officers are their friends.
He says this is important because movies usually portray officers negatively.
