Bum Phillips Bowl coming to Southeast Texas in honor of the legendary coach
FOX 4 News - Mid-county Madness is the rivalry high school football game between Port Neches Groves and Nederland that probably most football fans in the Golden Triangle know about.
It is the longest running rivalry in the area -- dating back to 1925. The teams played their 90th edition on Friday, Oct. 18th.
Now, in honor of the late coach Bum Phillips, Mid-county Madness will now include the Bum Phillips Bowl.
The game played on Friday night's will be in honor of the legendary Southeast Texas coach and will include a trophy that will be awarded to the winning team next year.
Phillips coached on both sides of Mid-County Madness, first at Nederland in the late '40s and early 50's. He then went to PN-G in 1963 and 1964.
