Early voting begins for BISD election that may be cancelled, rescheduled

In an early morning meeting, the district met to ask permission from a judge to cancel the election. If canceling the election would violate state law, as opposing attorneys insist it does, they would like to reschedule the election.
In an order from the 9th Court of Appeals, the district was told the November 5 election would violate state law because it wouldn't be a joint election with the city, county or state.
Today, board members voted to approve election judges, but they failed to pass an agenda item that gave the go ahead for a demographer to begin working on a 5-2 map.
The appeals court already ruled that the election would have to take place under a 5-2 map since voters already approved it.
BISD attorneys say they're just ready for a fair election while those opposed say it all boils down to power.
Judge Floyd says it will take a day or two to come to a decision.
