Man gets 15 years for manslaughter in death of child
JEFFERSON COUNTY - A judge has sentenced a defendant to 15 years for manslaughter in a case that led to a separate, 20 year sentence about two weeks ago.
Judge Layne Walker sentenced Ines Legarda Monday after Legarda pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Jacob Tucker.
Two weeks ago a jury in Walker's court convicted Legarda in the death of Alyssa Holtzclaw, Jacob's mother.
Holtzclaw worked at Christus hospital Saint Elizabeth. She was taking the child to her grandparents' home January 16th of 2011 when Legarda crashed into her car on the Pine Island Bayou Bridge.
Troopers say Legarda was traveling west on Highway 105 near the bridge when he crossed into her lane and struck Holtzclaw.
Legarda ran away and then got someone to pick him up and drive away him to Winnie. Investigators found him hours later and arrested him.
