Man chases down burglar who stole items from car
A man accused of breaking into a vehicle and stealing items found himself in even more trouble when he drove away.
More than a half dozen Beaumont police officers went after the suspect with help from the victim and a good samaritan.
Beaumont police say a man at Advanced Auto Parts in the 5200 block of College returned to his car to find a phone and several other items missing.
"He noticed the vehicle then as he was driving down College. He sees it at a local business."
That business was Chicken Express just down the road.
"He stops to speak with the person and he sees his items inside the vehicle."
Officers say the victim approached the suspect and that led to a chase.
The suspect then tried to leave the area, but hit an employee's car in the process and took off with the victim in pursuit.
"I saw the two gentlemen running. One was chasing the other. A gentleman in a black charger cut the one in front off at the intersection. And then sped in here and cut him off in the parking lot. The gentleman chasing the gentleman kicked at the guy. He went down. I didn't see if he kicked him or not, but he did go down."
Steve King manages O'reilly Auto Parts on College. He says that's when a good samaritan got involved.
"One of the guys pointed to a policeman that was running across chasing this guy also and that's when all of the police cars showed up."
They eventually took one man into custody..
It seemed that the gentleman didn't want to comply with the officer's demands, give us your hands, but he was subdued by the officer.
Police drove the man to jail.
"It's just a busy corner. There seems like there's an accident here all the time. There's just a lot going on all the time. There sure is."
