Food stamp benefits set to decrease
Starting today, families on food stamps will experience a 5-percent decrease in benefits.
The executive director of the Southeast Texas Food Bank says that means a family of four will receive $36 less per month, which is several days worth of food.
He says $9 million will be cut from food stamp recipients in this area.
The reason for the cuts is an increase to the program passed in 2009 that expired today. It was part of the stimulus package.
