Hamshire-Fannett school district to accept out-of-district students
Beginning in January, some Hamshire-Fannett students may see new faces in the classrooms as students move in from other school districts.
It's a new policy the school board approved this month that will allow up to 122 students to transfer in from outside the district's boundaries.
Students would be accepted after filling out an application and meeting certain criteria.
The student must have good standing attendance, good behavioral records and good grades.
Parents out of district would have to pay a yearly tuition of $1,000 for their child to attend the school.
Free and reduced lunch students would be exempt from tuition charges.
Despite parent complaints, the superintendent says with little to no funding coming to the district, changes had to be made.
The superintendent says that in addition to tuition, each student will bring in an extra $5,000 from the state for average daily attendance.
