County clerk's office closes on non-holiday
Some people went to the county clerk's office in Jefferson County today only to find it closed.
The doors were shut, and the office was not open to the public, even though it's not an official county holiday today. One employee remained behind to handle court matters only.
County clerk Carolyn Guidry says commissioners changed the county Christmas holidays from Christmas Eve and Christmas day to Christmas day and Thursday, the day after.
She told us her employees deserved to spend the day with their families, instead of coming into work for just one day. Other offices in the courthouse remained open.
One visitor who says he needed a copy of a deed today believes the office should have remained open, because a lot of people have time off of work this week.
Guidry says she posted notice of the office hours two weeks ago.
