Senator Ted Cruz drops Canadian citizenship
Senator Ted Cruz is ditching his Canadian citizenship.
Cruz says he has hired lawyers to help with the process. Cruz was born in Canada, but his mother is American so he technically was a citizen of both.
He says, as a U.S. senator, it's important to him to only be of U.S. citizenship.
But the move also fuels rumors that he'll be running for president in 2016. The topic apparently came up in conversation with Donald Trump.
Trump was one of the big names behind the birther movement, alleging that President Barack Obama was not a U.S. citizen.
