Burglar steals Christmas from local family
PORT ARTHUR- by Haley Bull
A Port Arthur family is dealing with the aftermath of a cold burglary just days before Christmas.
Sunday, the stockings were hung, the wreath was up but some of the presents were gone.
"They took everything from my kids, and I'm like, it's right before Christmas and you look at my house, I mean it's just vandalize," Mickey Provost said.
She came home to her house vandalized and burglarized Saturday.
"Why hurt my kids? And this is supposed to be the season to be jolly. Why take from them?" she asked.
Her jolly season was nearly ruined after a neighbor discovered something about the house on Lakeshore Drive didn't look right.
When Ron Anderson went by the house, he says he saw a window pushed in with the air conditioning unit lying on the floor. He said that's when he knew something was wrong.
"I knew the Grinch had been up in there," Anderson said.
It was what seemed like a real-life Grinch.
Provost's three-year old daughter's room was torn apart, as well as her eight-year old's son's.
The entire house in similar shape. Furniture knocked over, broken glass, and valuables missing.
Provost said it's not the material things she's worried about.
"I can't replace what they took as far as in my computer with my babies, you know, the first step, the pregnancy and everything," Provost said. "My brother, my deceased brother that was killed four years ago, his belongings is gone. That's stuff that I can't, I can't bring that back."
It's the priceless things she's upset about.
"Some of that stuff is outdo any price of all money," Provost said.
What's left is a family picking up the pieces and trying to keep their spirits up for Christmas.
