Judge Wortham rules Millett Harrison must remain at Rusk for another year
BEAUMONT - by Scott Lawrence
Fox 4 has learned State District Judge Bob Wortham ordered a man found not guilty by reason of insanity in the killing of his mother to remain confined to Rusk State Hospital for at least another year.
Judge Wortham made the ruling Wednesday afternoon in the case of Millett Harrison, 65. Harrison killed his mother, Louise, 67, and dismembered her in February 1994 at her Beaumont home.
Doctors diagnosed Harrison paranoid schizophrenic and he's received court-ordered mental health services at a state psychiatric hospital since he was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Judge Wortham told Fox 4 based on testimony from a hearing last week, he found there's no way to guarantee Harrison will take medication for his condition. The judge also told us he made his decision to protect Harrison and the public.
