Beaumont teacher questions arson investigation
A Beaumont teacher has questions tonight after two fires damaged her home Tuesday night.
Fox 4's Justin Hinton went back to the house in the 3700 block of Treadway to speak to her and her family about their concerns.
Velvet Malbroux, her father, her husband, and her two children were all inside when they started smelling burning wood.
Investigators say an electric short sparked the fire.
But a few hours later, after the fire department put that out, another one ignited. This time, investigators point to arson.
Take a look at this video we captured last night.
It happened around 8.
Firefighters battled this blaze -- the second one at the home -- a few hours after the first.
The fire is under investigation, but investigators say someone deliberately set the house on fire.
The family however doesn't believe that's the case.
They say the house and gates were all locked.
Malbroux says she has a meeting with a representative from the department tomorrow and hopes to have a few more answers.
A little bit of good news though...
Birthday journals belonging to the Malbroux's two children, ages 2 and 6 were found untouched in a bedroom drawer.
They may not have the house, but Malbroux says at least her kids will have the journals to remind them of the good times they shared before the fire.
